How to Get Gambit UCI Chess Engine for Free and Improve Your Chess Skills

I agree with @EscherehosE that Arena is an excellent free UCI. It is my non-Fritz choice for use on my laptop when I'm away from the big desktop computer. All UCI's tend to engage the chess engine when you load a game for some reason. I think they should allow default settings to be modified to turn the engine off unless desired, but what do I know ...? Anyway, it is simple to just click the tiny "Edit" button on the top menu when starting any game or analysis if you don't want the engine to interfere or when manually playing over a game.

thank you karl42 i was posting the last message at broze not you.If members try the 30 programs an 13 chess engines an tweak them like fritz 5.32 you need to add a opening book i used the rybka turk blitz book.chess base light 2007 demo limitation is 32500 games perdata base however i have downloaded several smaller bases so i now have about 250000 pgn games on it.Do all these downloads kike me an save your hard earned money for oyher goodies as there is not much you cannot do with these free programs.

I still have a job however with everyting going nuts with the economy this year i will not buy much chess stuff so about 30 days ago i started to download free chess programs an boy was i shocked by how much great free stuff there is an think about this when you download for instance portable winboard x with rybka 2.2n2p 32bit on a single cpu rated 2988 at 5 min blitz with a naminov endgame table base an the rybka performance bin opening book that just two years ago you would have paid about 100 dollars for it.Hey for the average player like me to spar against a almost 3000 program is all you will ever need.

hey guys your poor old boy try'd todownload chess cat but it wishs for me to load its chess font however for now i have not been able to pull up the file to do it.i plan to google chess cat see if ican find the homepage.however of the about 90 programs ihave downloaded i avgerage one of 9 which drive you nuts so you have to give up hope chess cat is not one of these 10 % of bougas downloads.
